The Wright Agency 1921 – Present
The Wright Agency is the oldest and original agency was started in 1921, right here in Belmont, MS. Some years later, the son, B.E. Wright, Jr. grew up and went on to manage the insurance agency. Then tragically in 1968, he and a passenger were in a plane crash at the Belmont Airport resulting in the loss of both of their lives.
His head stone is pictured here. Local lady, Peggy Montgomery had been working at the bank and filling in some at the insurance office. She stepped up and ran the agency for the Wrights for two years after the accident, until new ownership came about.
1970 – That’s when Jerry McAnally and wife Marilyn decided to take a chance. Jerry had a career as a teacher but saw opportunity on the horizon. He was able to buy the insurance office after the passing of B.E. Wright. He worked long days for a while, teaching during the day and selling insurance at night.
It wasn’t long until he has established himself enough to quit teaching and do insurance full time. In the early 2000’s, a bank bought the insurance from the McAnallys, rebranding it as First American Insurance Services, Inc.
In 2002 the Gramm-Leach Billey Act that prevented banks from operating insurance companies under the same roof was repealed. This placed a desire for expansion with FAISI; hence they purchased Robinson Insurance Agency. Jerry and Marilyn continued to run the insurance at full steam until their retirement in 2017.
In the Spring of 2022, MWIG was blessed with an offer to acquire a book of business that is near to our hearts. The former Insurance Services of Dennis, MS became part of Mc-Wright Insurance Group, almost a year after the unexpected passing of foundress, Donita Trotter. Hinging on the premise of woman owned, we were nothing short of honored to carry on her legacy in a manner that would make her proud.
Each year, MWIG will continue to sponsor the Miss Hospitality award at the annual beauty pageant in our hometown. Donita sponsored the award for 15+ year prior, and we continue in her honor. Pictured is the 2023 recipient with owner, Tamara Pharr.
First American Insurance Services, Inc., the largest and most recent acquisition, came about through an in-house purchase in Summer 2022. Tamara was agency manager of FAISI when the bank owning it decided to depart from the insurance industry.
The relationship between MWIG and the bank still stands strong in friendship and community. Tamara is pictured here on the day of closing holding keys to the building at 9 Third Street, Belmont, MS.
It was our founding owners who through servant leadership, plaid the groundwork in setting the standard for what our agency is today- to insure people, for who they are and the character they display, and that our clients are our family. We are to respect them, as well as our carriers and underwriters.
